Movie sequences

The left 3 sequences ('dot map representation') show 3-D reconstructions of the right pontine nuclei (transparent grey) and the distributions of axonal labeling (red and black dots) in three typical experiments. The reconstructions are shown in a view from ventral, followed by a 360 degree rotations. The "pause" facility of your viewer may be used to allow closer inspection of the reconstructions from different angles of view. For details about the experiments and overlap analyses, see 'List of cases'.

The right 3 sequences ('overlap analysis') show a visualization of the 3-D analysis of overlap between FR and BDA labeling, from the same experiments as shown in the upper 3 video sequences. The overlap analysis is generated by subdividing the ipsilateral pontine nuclei into 35x35x50 µm bins and counting the number of dots (representing FR and BDA labeling) for each bin. Bins containing > 2 dots of either tracer category are rendered red (FR) or blue (BDA), whereas bins containing > 2 dots of both tracers are rendered yellow.

M25 - dot map representation
3-D reconstruction from case M25. The clusters of red (SI labeling) and blue (MI labeling) dots are largely segregated and together form a ring-like volume in the ipsilateral pontine nuclei.

M25 - overlap analysis
3-D visualization of overlap analysis of case M25, showing that the two categories of labeling are largely segregated.

SS43 - dot map represenation
3-D reconstruction from case SS43. The clusters of red and black dots are partially overlapping within a laterally located arrow-shaped lamellar volume, and in distinct clusters located medially in the pontine nuclei. The black dots (SI labeling) surround the red dots (SII labeling) externally.

SS43 - overlap analysis
3-D visualization of overlap analysis of case SS43, showing that the blue bins (BDA, SII) surround the red bins (FR, SI) externally, with an extensive overlap zone at the interface.

SS49 - dot map representation
3-D reconstruction from case SS49. The narrow clusters of black (SI labeling) and red (SII labeling) dots are partially overlapping and interdigitating within a laterally located arrow-shaped lamellar volume, as well as in distinct clusters located medially in the pontine nuclei.
SS49 - overlap analysis
3-D visualization of overlap analysis of case SS49, showing that the blue (SI labeling) and red (SII labeling) bins are interdigitating and partially overlapping, within a narrow lamellar subspaces laterally and medially in the pontine nuclei.
